The Art of Growing

A project of Government High School, Mangalore Project Based Learning class.

Our Mission

Human population particularly in developing and under developed countries is growing at a rapid rate, whereas the land mass available for growing food crops has remained the same. In order to meet the growing demand for food, man has been trying to find various methods of increasing the food production. With the introduction of high yielding varieties of various crops and by following intensive cultivation practices with the use of fertilizers, pesticides and other inputs, there has definitely been a jump in agricultural production. But, the intensive use of fertilizers and pesticides has not only polluted the soil, water and the environment causing their slow degradation but also affected the human beings.

From the past six weeks we are working on our project "The Art of Growing". We role-played as Agricultural officers, Entomologists and Social workers working as members of “Centre for Agriculture and Rural development” with an objective to analyze the impact of use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on environment and suggest strategies to overcome adverse effects of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Our mission, "How can we grow enough food without polluting our Environment?"

This Web site was created to raise awareness about innovative agricultural practices. It includes information about innovative agricultural practices, and lists suggestions as to what farmers can do, either on their own or as a group.
